• DMS BPA WIN AT STATE FOR SECOND YEAR IN A ROW

    On Saturday, March 4, the Davis Middle School Business Professionals of America Team traveled with their teachers Laura Wilson and Mindy Eggleston to Davenport University in Grand Rapids for the second annual Middle Level BPA State Leadership Conference. There were ten schools with 110 students in attendance.  

    The DMS took the state champion spot in three different categories.  Grace Shreffler '21 was crowned “state champion” in Keyboarding Production and John Maier '21 was also crowned “state champion” in Entrepreneurship Exploration. The Web Site Design Team of: Brylee Boyd ‘21, Grace Shreffler ‘21, Melanie Foust ‘21, and Grace Vondra ‘21, were also crowned “state champions.”  Vondra also placed second in Graphic Design Promotion.  The Introduction to Video Team of: Rylie Dietz ‘22, Olivia Gendron ‘22, Kenzie Randolph ‘22, and MaryEllen Petersen ‘22 also placed second. Eighth grader, Hailey Granata was the runner-up in  Entrepreneurship Exploration.

    A third place plaque was awarded to Blake Schaffner for Business Communication Skills Concepts.  Jack Granata (Excel Spreadsheets) and John Maier (Financial Literacy) placed fourth.

    The Business Professionals of America’s Torch Awards Program is designed to promote professionalism and leadership in both career development and personal growth. Students complete activities in seven Torch categories—Leadership; Service; Cooperation; Knowledge; Friendship; Love, Hope, Faith; and Patriotism—and log their activities in an online Torch Résumé. Brylee Boyd ‘21 has received Executive, Diplomat, and Statesman Torch Awards in 2017 and she is currently a candidate for the top award—Ambassador Torch Award at nationals.

    Twelve students have qualified to compete at the National Leadership Conference to be held in Orlando, Florida, May 10-14, 2017.
