    Mrs. Wilson's Weekly Lesson Plans

    (These plans are tentative and sometimes change based upon the needs of my students and our pace in the classroom.)

     

    Plans for the Week of February 24-28:

    English 7 :

    • 2/24: The spelling pre-test will be given for Unit 18 and students will get a spelling list to study for the week. We will read chapter 7 in The Outsiders.
    • 2/25:  Finish chapter 7 in The Outsiders/discuss. Students will complete questions for chapter 7 and will update their character trait charts.
    • 2/26: Read chapter 8/discuss/and complete questions.  
    • 2/27: Mini-lesson: Character inferences; Students will complete a graphic organizer.  Homework: Reading log signature  
    • 2/28: Reading logs due-Week 7; Spelling Unit 18 Test will be given; Read chapter 9 in The Outsiders.

    Advanced English 7:

    • 2/24: The spelling pre-test will be given for Unit 18 and students will get a spelling list to study for the week. We will review chapter 11 and read/discuss chapter 12 in The Giver.  We will begin our dialectical journal for the remaining chapters in the book.
    • 2/25: We will read and discuss chapter 13 in The Giver.  Update character chart/complete questions.  
    • 2/26: Read and discuss chapters 14 and 15 in The Giver.  Discussion in small groups.
    • 2/27: Quiz over chapters 11-15 will be given.  Homework: Reading log signature  
    • 2/28: Reading logs due-Week 7; Spelling Unit 18 Test will be given; Read chapter 16 in The Giver.  

     

     

     

    Plans for the Week of February 17-21:

    English 7:

    • 2/17: No School-No spelling this week.
    • 2/18: Review chapter 5/Summarize- Analyze the poem "Nothing Gold Can Stay." (From chapter 5)
    • 2/19: Read chapter 6/questions in The Outsiders/discuss.
    • 2/20: Mini-lesson: Point of view: Students will write news articles in the perspective of greasers or Socs, after discussing if they are heroes or hoods.  Homework: Reading log signature  Quiz over chapters 4-6 will be given.
    • 2/21: Reading logs due-Week 6; We will read chapter 7 in The Outsiders/summarize.

    Advanced English 7:

    • 2/17: No School-No spelling this week.
    • 2/18: Mini-lesson: Compare/contrast our society with the Utopian society in The Giver. Read chapter 9 when finished.
    • 2/19: Read chapter 10/discuss, questions for 9 & 10
    • 2/20: Quiz will be given for chapters 6-10-The Giver  Homework: Reading log signature  
    • 2/21: Reading logs due-Week 6; Read chapter 11-The Giver.

     

    Plans for the Week of February 10-14:

    English 7: No spelling or reading logs this week due to PT Conferences and shorter week.

    • 2/10: Chapter 4 small group role-playing activity
    • 2/11: Read chapter 5-The Outsiders. Complete summaries/questions.
    • 2/12: Finish chapter 5- Analyze the poem "Nothing Gold Can Stay." (From chapter 5)

    Advanced English 7:

    Plans for the Week of February 3-7:

    English 7:

    • 2/3: The spelling pre-test will be given for Unit 17 and students will get a spelling list to study for the week. Finish chapter 2 questions. Chapters 1-4 vocab activity.
    • 2/4: Read chapter 3-The Outsiders. 
    • 2/5: Mini-lesson: Compare/contrast - Graphic organizer that compares the greasers and Socs-write compare/contrast paragraph.  Chapters 1-3 Quiz will be given. 
    • 2/6: Read chapter 4-The Outsiders/discuss.  Homework: Reading log signature  
    • 2/7: Reading logs due-Week 5; Spelling Unit 17 Test will be given; Chapter 4 small group activity

    Advanced English 7:

    • 2/3: The spelling pre-test will be given for Unit 17 and students will get a spelling list to study for the week. Discuss chapters 4 & 5; Finish questions.  Study for quiz over chapters 1-5-The Giver.  
    • 2/4: Quiz will be given for chapters 1-5-The Giver.

    English 7:

    • 1/28: Finish graphic organizer and complete questions/vocabulary words for chapter one -The Outsiders.
    • 1/29: Read chapter 2 The Outsiders/discuss.
    • 1/30: Mini-lesson: Compare/contrast - Graphic organizer that compares the greasers and Socs Homework: Reading log signature 
    • 1/31: Reading logs due-Week 4; Spelling Unit 16 Test will be given; Chapters 3 & 4 vocab/read chapter 3-The Outsiders.

    Advanced English 7:

    • 1/29: Mini-lesson: Character analysis- Students will complete a graphic organizer that describes each character in the novel.

    Plans for the Week of January 6-10:

    English 7:

    • 1/6:The spelling pre-test will be given for Unit 14 and students will get a spelling list to study for the week.  Intro to Literary Essay Unit of study-review of theme and brainstorm themes from Where the Red Fern Grows.
    • 1/7: Theme lesson: Choose 3 to begin thinking through for possible essay topics.
    • 1/8: Finding textual evidence lesson: Students will complete a graphic organizer that incorporates textual evidence for literary essay.
    • 1/9: Finish textual evidence graphic organizer.  Homework: Reading log signature 
    • 1/10: Reading logs due-Week 1; Spelling Unit 14 Test will be given; Introduction paragraphs/thesis lesson: Students will write paragraph one of their literary essays.

     

    Advanced English 7:

    • 1/6:The spelling pre-test will be given for Unit 14 and students will get a spelling list to study for the week.   Review of textual evidence lesson: Students will be given time to fix their evidence on their graphic organizers.
    • 1/7: Introduction paragraph lesson-Students will write paragraph one of their literary essays.
    • 1/8: Evidence paragraphs: Notes/write paragraph two of literary essay.
    • 1/9: Work on drafting paragraphs 3-4. Homework: Reading log signature 
    • 1/10: Reading logs due-Week 1; Spelling Unit 14 Test will be given; Conclusion lesson: Write paragraph five of literary essay.

     

    Plans for the Week of December 9-13:

     English 7:

    • 12/16:  *No spelling test or reading logs this week.** Google Slide Book presentations begin.
    • 12/17:Google Slide Book presentations continued.
    • 12/18: Part 1 of Where the Red Fern Grows film will be shown.
    • 12/19: Part 2 of Where the Red Fern Grows film will be shown.
    • 12/20: Compare/contrast the novel with the film version.

    Advanced English 7:

    • 12/16: *No spelling test or reading logs this week.** Oral Presentations begin!
    • 12/17 HHS Collage Concert in DMS auditorium
    • 12/18: Oral Presentations continue.
    • 12/19: Show film version of The Diary of Anne Frank.
    • 12/20: Finish film version of The Diary of Anne Frank.

     

    Plans for the Week of December 9-13:

     English 7:

    • 12/9:The spelling pre-test will be given for Unit 13 and students will get a spelling list to study for the week.  Review for final unit assessment-Where the Red Fern Grows.  
    • 12/10: Final unit assessment will be given for Where the Red Fern Grows.  Google Slide Book presentations will be assigned and students will begin presenting on Monday, December 16th.

    • 12/10: Time to finish finding textual evidence
    • 12/11: Mini-lesson: Crafting strong introductions with thesis statements
    • 12/12: Mini-lesson: Evidence paragraphs/models/ Students begin drafting paragraph #2.

    Advanced English 7:

    • 12/2:The spelling pre-test will be given for Unit 12 and students will get a spelling list to study for the week. *Diary Project work day*
    • 12/3: DIARY PROJECT DUE WITH RUBRIC Unit review/read article "What Happened to the People in The Secret Annex?"
    • 12/4: Final Unit Test over The Diary of Anne Frank will be given. The book report assignment will be given.  Presentations will begin December 16th.
    • 12/5: Introduction to literary essay unit; look at models and review themes of The Diary.

    • 10/31: Complete comprehension questions for chapters 5-7. Homework: Reading log signature
    • 11/1: Reading logs due-Week 2; Spelling Unit 8 Test will be given.  Read chapter 8/discuss Where the Red Fern Grows.

    Advanced English 7:

    • 10/28:The spelling pre-test will be given for Unit 8 and students will get a spelling list to study for the week. Read Act I, Scene II of The Diary and answer comprehension questions.  Homework: Take Home Task-Unit 8
    • 10/29: Comprehension assessment for Act I, Scenes I and II will be given.
    • 10/30: Read Act I, Scene III, The Diary of Anne Frank.  Complete questions in packet.
    • 10/31: Mini-lesson: Character traits- Students will complete their character trait graphic organizers. Homework: Reading log signature
    • 11/1: Reading logs due-Week 2; Spelling Unit 8 Test will be given. Bio-Poem assignment on Google classroom. 

     

     

     

    Plans for the Week of October 21-25:

     English 7:

    • 10/21:The spelling pre-test will be given for Unit 7 and students will get a spelling list to study for the week. We will also have our library time.  Write summaries and draw pictures of first three chapters in the book.   Homework: Take Home Task-Unit 7
    • 10/22: Mini-lesson: Character traits of the main character in Where the Red Fern Grows; Students will complete a graphic organizer for the character.
    • 10/23: We will be reading chapter 4 in our class book.
    • 10/24: Students will write bio-poems using their character trait charts. Homework: Reading log signature
    • 10/25: Reading logs due-Week 2; Spelling Unit 7 Test will be given.  We will read chapter 5 and discuss.

    Advanced English 7:

    • 10/21:The spelling pre-test will be given for Unit 7 and students will get a spelling list to study for the week. Students will read an article about Anne Frank's family and the other people who hid in the Secret Annex during the time of the Holocaust.   Homework: Take Home Task-Unit 7
    • 10/22: A diary project will be assigned and students will have time to work on that. Mini-lesson: flashback; Read Act I, Scene I of The Diary of Anne Frank.
    • 10/23: Read Act I, Scene II of The Diary and answer comprehension questions.
    • 10/24: Comprehension assessment for Act I, Scenes I and II will be given.  Homework: Reading log signature
    • 10/25: Reading logs due-Week 2; Spelling Unit 7 Test will be given.  

     

     

     

    Plans for the Week of October 14-18:

    English 7:

    • 10/14:The spelling pre-test will be given for Unit 6 and students will get a spelling list to study for the week. Introduction to narrative reading unit of study-Where the Red Fern Grows.  I will be discussing author, character, and setting information. We will make predictions about the book and will complete vocabulary words for chapters 1 and 2. 
    • 10/15: Read/discuss chapter 1 of the novel/questioning will follow. 
    • 10/16: Textual evidence mini-lesson using clues from chapter 1  
    • 10/17:  Homework: Reading log signature 
    • We will read and discuss chapter 2 of the novel.
    • 10/18: Reading logs due-Week 6; Spelling Unit 6 Test will be given; Questions for chapters 1 and 2 will be given.

     

    Advanced English 7:

    • 10/14:The spelling pre-test will be given for Unit 6 and students will get a spelling list to study for the week. Introduction to reading unit of study-Introduction to the "Diary of Anne Frank" play.  Students will be learning some background knowledge about The Holocaust. (Advanced ELA)
    • 10/15: 
    • Lesson will be focused on who Anne Frank was and a video about her life will be shown. (Adv. ELA)
    • 10/16: Students will read an article about Anne Frank's family and the other people who hid in the Secret Annex during the time of the Holocaust. (Adv. ELA)
    • 10/17: Students will finish reading an article about Anne Frank's family  Homework: Reading log signature

    • 10/7:The spelling pre-test will be given for Unit 5 and students will get a spelling list to study for the week. Students will begin presenting their book talks to the class. (Hours 4 and 5 will have one last day to work on these due to the half day on 10/3)   Homework: Spelling Take Home Task-Unit 5

    • Advanced ELA and English 7:
    • 9/30: Memoir editing lessons: Punctuating dialogue/ final day to publish memoirs--These memoir writing pieces are due by the end of the hour today.
    • 10/1: Book talk Google Slide presentations will be assigned for first quarter.  Students will look at the rubric and will learn the Google Slide basics.  
    • 10/2: Students will have time to work independently on their Google Slide presentations. 
    • 10/3: 1/2 DAY STUDENTS-Work on book talks for morning classes.
    • 10/4: NO SCHOOL-Enjoy the day off!

     

    Plans for the Week of September 23-27:

     

    Advanced and English 7:

    • 9/23:No School-Fair Day! Reading today is not required!
    • 9/24:Memoir lesson: How to write an effective conclusion paragraph 
    • 9/25: Memoir lesson: Bold beginnings; Students will write three different new beginnings to their memoirs and will decide which one they like best.
    • 9/26: Memoir lesson: Proofreading/editing/peer review/begin publishing.
    •   Homework: Reading log signature
    • 9/27: Reading logs due-Week 5; Work on publishing memoirs.  These are due on Monday.

    • 9/10:Students will take their writing pre-assessment from last week's research.
    • 9/11:Last day to complete persuasive writing pre-assessment.
    • 9/12: Introduction to memoir-what is it?  What is in the heart of memoir? Make heart maps. Homework: Reading log signature
    • 9/13: Reading logs due-Week 3; Spelling Unit 3 Test will be given; Students will be assigned mentor texts in the memoir writing genre.

    • 9/2:No School-Labor Day
    • 9/3:The spelling pre-test will be given for Unit 1 and students will get a spelling list to study for the week.  Day 1 of persuasive writing pre-assessment will be given. Homework: Spelling Take Home Task-Unit 1
    • 9/4:Day 2 of persuasive writing pre-assessment will be given.
    • 9/5: Students will finish their persuasive pre-assessment. Homework: Reading log signature
    • 9/6: Reading logs due-Week 2; Spelling Unit 1 Test will be given; Students will complete a reading comprehension assessment.

     

     

     

    Plans for the Week of August 26-August 30:

     

    Advanced and English 7:

    • 8/26: The spelling pre-test will be given for Unit 1 and students will get a spelling list to study for the week.  Reading logs will be discussed and students will go to the library to check out "just right" books.  Students will need to read 20 minutes Monday-Thursday and the logs are due each Friday.  (This week they will be due on Thursday.)
    • 8/27: "Where I'm From" poetry lesson plan Homework: Spelling Take Home Task-Unit 1
    • 8/28: Continue working on poems.  We will be using Chromebooks to type them.  Homework: Reading log signature
    • 8/29: Reading logs due-Week 1; Spelling Unit 1 Test will be given; Students will finish their poems and will share with their writing groups.
    • 8/30: No School-Enjoy the long weekend!
