    “I'm so proud of our success and of the students who represented Hillsdale during the 2018 Business Professionals of America National Leadership Conference in Dallas last week,” said Advisor Mindy Eggleston. “Michigan won more competitive event awards than any other state,” added Advisor Laura Wilson.  Approximately 5,567 people from 25 states and the territory of Puerto Rico attended the conference. There were 589 delegates from Michigan (451 high school students, 39 middle school students, and 99 college students).

    Thirteen Hornets (two from HHS and 11 from DMS) attended the 52nd NLC May 9-13.  Jon Huber ‘22 and Kenzie Randolph ‘22 placed second and third respectively. Jon was second out of 156 competitors on the Business Fundamentals Concepts open test and Kenzie placed third in Entrepreneurship Exploration.  The team of Leah Reiniche ‘22 and Stephen Petersen ‘24 finished in 8th in the Introduction to Video Production Contest and the team of Rylie Dietz ‘22, Olivia Gendron ‘22, MaryEllen Petersen ‘22, and Kenzie Randolph placed 9th in the same contest.  Seventh grader Jack Granata placed 10th in the spreadsheet application event.

    Multiple Hornets finished in the top twenty of the nation including Addison Hoffman (Graphic Design), Olivia Gendron (Graphic Design), Jon Huber (Extemporaneous Speech), MaryEllen Petersen (Financial Literacy), Austin Hall (Prepared Speech), Lauren Jenkins (Prepared Speech), and Sarah Shreffler (Fundamental Desktop Publishing).

    In addition to participating in the competitive events program, the students and their chaperones attended leadership workshops, a Texas Hoedown (including armadillo races, mechanical bull riding, and more), and visited downtown Grapevine and the stockyards.

    Business Professionals of America is a dynamic youth organization which provides leadership and business opportunities for high school students to prepare them in their selection as they make decisions on their future careers.
