I teach three music courses at Davis Middle School; 6th Choir, 7th Choir, and 8th Choir.

There are two choirs at Hillsdale High School. The Concert Choir is a non-audtioned group open to any student who wants to learn to sing and develop their musicianship skills. The Chorale is an auditioned group that performs a diverse and challenging repertoire. Both choirs perform several times a year in various venues.

Professional bio...

Mr. Boswell has been a music educator since 1990, with all but three of those years in Hillsdale where he has enjoyed teaching the students at Davis Middle School and Hillsdale High School. Mr. Boswell also directed the Hillsdale Arts Chorale for 6 years. He has served as a faculty member for the All-State Choir at the Interlochen Center for the Arts.

Mr. Boswell holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, and a Masters degree in Choral Conducting from Michigan State University. Mr. Boswell is also a member of the VoiceCare Network in Minnestoa. In 2001 he was named a Fulbright Memorial Fund Scholar and studied for three weeks in Japan. In 2004 he received the Michigan School Vocal Music Association’s Carolyn Leep Scholarship. In January of 2008, Mr. Boswell directed the 7th-9th grade SATB State Honors Choir at the Michigan Music Conference in Grand Rapids.

His choirs and students have enjoyed great success at District and State Festivals, and many of his students are selected to participate in the Honors Choirs program every year. Over the years, the HCSD choirs have performed in many masterworks concerts, premiered commissioned works, and have sung in our nation’s capital, St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City, and Shea Stadium where they performed the National Anthem before a New York Mets game. His choirs have also enjoyed invitations to perform with the Hillsdale Arts Chorale and the Jackson Symphony Orchestra.
